R.I.P. Scott

Today, we buried my cousin, Scott. He was 43 years old. He left behind a wife of 14 years and a12 year old daughter. This was way too early for him to die. No wife should have to bury her husband when she is only 45.

You have probably read some of my other posts about his journey. He was diagnosed back in early December with cancer in his esophagus. He was undergoing some pretty heavy duty chemo and radiation treatments. On August 30th he lost that fight. The memorial service was yesterday and the burial was this morning. His daughter and niece made up some really nice picture boards that I wish I would have taken pictures of. It was funny to look at some of the pictures from when he was a teen and see how dorky everyone looked.

It was nice to see some of my relatives that I have not seen in a couple of years but this is not the circumstances that I want to see them. I much more prefer seeing them at weddings and family reunions. It really makes you step back and realize how fragile life is and to not waste the good times. They may not always bee there.

One of the things I found interesting that I did not know was that my cousin had been to Vegas more than 30 times in his short life. I always knew he liked to go but I was surprised at how often he went. They told the story of how a group of them had been at Potawatomi Casino only 4 days before he died. He had been play poker for a couple of hours and wasn't doing so well. He got up from the table and told his friends that he was going to go and play some video poker for awhile. About 30 minutes later he came back with a big smile on his face. He had won a couple hundred dollars on a machine when it hit. He left this life as a winner.

So, next year I am riding the Trek 100 ride in memory of my cousin Scott.

That's all for now folks, have a good weekend.

I am sorry for your loss Jo. I am sure Scott will be missed by all. My condolences to his wife and daughter. You are right, no one should have to die that young.
