NEW YORK—National Football League officials announced that Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has committed a uniform weapons violation and will be fined $2,000 for keeping his nine-millimeter Beretta handgun in his game uniform's belt and not tucking the firearm into his uniform pants as rules stipulate during Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. "This fine sends a clear message that there is no leeway when it comes the NFL's new firearms policy—if players have a sidearm in their pants while on the field of play, said pistol must be tucked into the front, back, or sides of said pants," a statement from the commissioner's office read in part. "Once again, the rule is clear: Players can carry up to five guns onto the field at any one time, but only if they are properly carried in holsters underneath their jerseys, in the aforementioned portions of their pants, or in their sock." Goodell also cautioned Jones to be mindful of rule 14b of the on-field uniform code, which states that one may shoot an opposing quarterback once and only once as long as the throwing arm is not targeted.

Rooms to Let... for Fifty Cents
I am now looking for a place to sleep.
Ever since hubby has moved back in with me, I am getting no sleep. Literally. He snores. BAD. Ask the guys who went to the Packer game with him a few weeks ago. They will tell you.
It is now to the point that somehow I end up sleeping on the couch. Not sure how that works... this is my house. I sleep on the couch. Not that is not a comfy couch but sleeping with two dogs on the couch is a bit cramped. Rufus still sleeps in the bed with hubby. I told him tonight that he should sleep on the couch or in his chair. He laughed at me and said then he wouldn't get any sleep. I'm to the point where I don't care. I need sleep!!!
I am now sick and am positive that alot of it has to do with only getting a couple hours of sleep a night. If I'm lucky. It was actually nice to come home from work early today and sleep in the bed uninterrupted for 5 hours.
Back to bed now... or should I say couch.

Fun Fart Facts
It seems that whenever we camp the group as a whole is a very gassy bunch. I'm sure that it has nothing to do with all the food we eat and cocktails we consume. Face it, even tho' we are getting older farts are still funny.

Next comes puberty and we enter the phase of frantically trying to hold them in. I can just imagine my sweet little girl all grown up on a dinner date, squirming to prevent that embarrassing unintentional release.
Life gradually becomes more and more complicated and we find ourselves increasingly awash in uncontrolled flatulence and odor. We begin to reach for the Beano and even find ourselves considering the purchase of Odor Control Nether Garments. One of the many indignities of the aging process is that loss of muscle tone occurs – even around the anal sphincter. Yes, that is why an older person has a harder time holding ‘em in.
Leyner has his own unique theories on everything and I am sure this is no exception.
Mark Leyner: I have never been inordinately intrigued or amused by farting. Of all the bodily effluvia and excretions, I’d probably rank intestinal gas pretty low on my list of favorites. I much prefer tears, spit, pus, ejaculate, rheum, colostrum, etc.
That said, this ban on “intentional flatulence” at the Camden-Rockport Middle School has all sorts of ramifications that do fascinate me. For instance, how does anyone prove “intentionality” when it comes to farting? Will the school district hire forensic gastroenterologists to analyze air samples or study surreptitiously obtained audio recordings of the boys’ flatulence to try and determine whether it was deliberate or accidental? Obviously, there are various illnesses and food allergies that can cause flatulence.
On the other hand, what if a person willfully, premeditatedly, and with malice aforethought, renders himself potently flatulent? What if a middle-school student loads up, before school, on a breakfast of beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and sauerkraut? Can he then claim that the farting was something that couldn't be helped, that it was “an accident.”
But there’s an even more profound philosophical and legal question to ponder. And that is: should farting constitute a mode of constitutionally protected free speech? If not, what necessarily privileges one orifice (the mouth) above another (the anus)?
Is there some overarching moral imperative that justifies society’s anathematization of the fart? By what usurpation of basic liberty can the state proscribe the natural expressiveness of the sphincter and the anus? In other words, can a fart be “art”?
In the end, the Camden-Rockport Middle School Fart Ban may very well be a First Amendment issue. I think that this could result in a landmark Supreme Court case. This could be the Roe v. Wade of flatus. But I urge all Americans to bear one thing in mind: justice may be blind, but it’s not anosmic.

After a spectacular rookie season in 1986, the rotund reliever who always pitched in his lucky Jetsons t-shirt needed a new contract. Kerfeld asked for $110,037.37, matching his number 37 jersey, to pitch in 1987. On top of that, he received 37 boxes of orange Jell-O in the deal. The Astros would soon regret this delicious bonus, though; Kerfeld, who was famously caught eating ribs in the dugout that season, would battle weight and injury problems and get sent down to the minors. - Rollie Fingers, Oakland Athletics

Parents and Kids
Today's rant is not about people I know but people I don't.
I really don't like kids. I do not have kids. This is by choice. People, your kids or grand kids are not the best thing since sliced bread. Get a life. Not everyone likes or wants kids.
Today at work, someone's wife brought in their kid for 'show and tell'. I have no issue with someone bringing in a kid and staying for 5 minutes or so and then leaving.
My issue is with the parents who think their kids shit don't stink. The guy in the cube behind me had his wife bring the kid in today to show her off. The kid did nothing but cry and fuss for over an hour. Yeah, that's right over an hour.
I really don't like kids. I do not have kids. This is by choice.
If I wanted to hear kids crying I would have had them.
I do not want to hear your kid crying and shit while I am trying to work...... for over an hour.
I finally went to our building AA and asked him to do something about it. He did. Wife and kid were gone within 5 minutes.
My life was then happy.
I am very sure that if I were to bring my dogs in and they were barking that it would take less than an hour for someone to ask me to make them leave the building. Why are kids any different??
The funny thing is is that the dad in this case is on the phone almost every day with either the school or court system because his kids from a previous marriage is a delinquent. The kid is already labeled a habitual truant. School has been in session a month. One freaking month!!!!Maybe you should spend less time with the crying kid and new wife and more with the kid who will end up in jail by year's end.
I also have issue with parent's who are constantly leaving work early to take the kids to an appointment. Make the appointment outside of work hours. I do when I have to schedule vet appointments for the boys. I do not think that it is fair that they don't have to take vacation or sick time to for their kids events when I have to take sick or vacation time to take the dog(s) to the vet.
Once again, I do not have kids. This is by choice. I should not be penalized for this.

It's Been a Long Time Comin'
26 long years....
That is how long Milwaukee has waited to have a team in the MLB playoffs. It was worth the wait. Sometimes you just get the feeling that you are witnessing something special. This past season for the Brewers was it. It felt kinda like it did in '96 when the Packers won the Super Bowl. You just knew it was something.
I am not predicting that they will win the World Series (it would be nice tho'). But I think that they will play hard and give the fans an experience to remember for a long time to come.

What I did find amusing is that today at work was the number of people who had gone out yesterday and bought the Wild Card shirts. I seen at least a dozen by day's end. It was crazy. I would guess that half of them don't follow baseball in any way except for now that they have jumped on the bandwagon.
Thank you Mark Attanasio for buying the Brewers and spending the money to build a winning team. You have done what some said would never happen in a small market like Milwaukee.

Sleeping Like a Baby
Hubby was gone this past weekend with the guys to the Packer game. I had a blissful time. sigh...... I was able to sleep so well not having to listen to hubby snore like a train. Sorry guys that you had to put up with him for the weekend... NOT!! Since he moved back in with me, I have slept for shit. His snoring keeps me awake and I never get a good night's sleep. I really need to send him away more often.
Saturday I played poker. Did ok. In the first game I ran into a bigger pair to get knocked out early and only get three points. The second game went much better. I ended up taking 2nd place. I had been short stacked most of the game but managed to win when needed. After all was said and done, I can't take first place but am in the money for either 2nd or 3rd overall for the tourney. I have to finish in the top 4 to cash.
Sunday went and did some shopping. Boston Store had it's semi-annual Goodwill sale going on. You donate some old clothes and get coupons for new ones. I love this sale. I was happy to get a couple pairs of Ralph Lauren pants that were on sale. I love, love, love these pants but really don't like spending 200 bucks on them. I wait for the sales. They were on sale for 50% off so that dropped the price to $100. They were also in the yellow dot section which was another 25% off, down to $75. The Goodwill coupon took another 20% off which brought the final price down to 60 bucks. ROCK ON!!!
There has been a stray cat hanging around for the past few days. He is very friendly. He looks like he was a house cat for awhile as he doesn't have the battle scars that outside cats normally do. He is very skinny tho. I don't want to feed him so that he never leaves. I am allergic to cats so we can't keep him. Not that I want or need another animal. I hope he finds his way home soon.

A Bit Disturbing
In the past week I noticed something very odd when driving home.
I go past this very large cemetery on Capitol Dr. They are now advertising that you can use the building for you next event. Got a wedding, family reunion, corporate meeting? Try the cemetery. I also see that they are having a classic car show tomorrow. To me this is just a bit morbid. Granted it has a huge beautiful building but still…..
I will have to try and get a picture of the sign.

I had to send back my Crocs and get new ones in sizes that fit. I called their Customer Service area and had the most pleasant experience. She was able to send me a return postage label and get the new shoes ordered.
I got the new shoes and low and behold they did not fit. Ok, one pair fits pretty well but the Badger Crocs do not. My feet now hang over the back by ½ inch. Damn!! So back they go. The sizes run small is a 6-7 and the medium is 8-9. I really need a 7-8 sizing. Oh well.
My dad starts with his radiation and chemo treatments next week. He goes this week to the dentist and has to get some filings and a tooth pulled. I guess any teeth that are a bit suspect they need to take care of now before radiation as the jaw bones will be compromised afterwards. He also has to go and have some other testing done before the treatments start.
I’m going up to MN again for work next week. I’m excited about this one. This is the one workshop that I really wanted to be involved with. Just not looking forward to the 5 hour drive. The company is too cheap to pay for me to fly and then rent a car when I’m up there.
I have just finished reading one of the funniest books I have read in a long time. When I was reading it, I was laughing out loud. Hubby told me that if I was going to keep laughing like that I should go read somewhere else. I told him to go watch football somewhere else if it bothered him.
The book is ‘Bright Lights, Big Ass (A Self-Indulgent Surly Ex-Sorority Girl’s Guide to Why it Often Sucks in the City, or Who Are These Idiots and Why do They All Live Next Door to Me?)’ by Jen Lancaster. One of the funniest sections was where she is telling you about how here husband will no longer let her go grocery shopping by herself any longer. It seems that she came back from the store with three, yes 3 birthday cakes for dinner. Her reasoning… hey they had nuts on it so you had protein and she bought ice cream for dairy, isn’t that considered part of the food pyramid?? I was trying to read this section to hubby and I kid you not, I laughed for more than 15 minutes before I could get thru the ten sentences. I had tears just streaming down my face it was so funny. For those of you who know hubby will know why this is so funny for me. He has been known to eat an entire cake in one day. I have her other two books reserved at the library, I can’t wait to read them.

What A Croc
At the last camping trip is was noticed that I needed a new pair of Crocs. I have had this pair for well over three years now and they are wearing a bit thin. OK, very thin as the rocks now hurt my feet when I walked.
So I went to the Crocs website and browsed around. I ordered a pair of Wisconsin Badger Caymans and a pair of Cleo's.
They came in the mail yesterday. I eagerly opened the box and tried them one. They did not fit. The Badger ones were too big and the Cleo's were too small. CRAP!!! I had ordered them the size that I normally wear, 8's. The Badger ones came in a size 8-9. I figured that would be ok. Nope, way too big. It looks like I have clown shoes on. The Cleo's same thing. Size 8. My toes hang over the top.

Beliot College Mindset List
This is the 11th year that Beloit College has assembled these observations that help to identify the experiences that have shaped the lives–and formed the mindset—of students starting their post-secondary education this fall.
The Mindset List is not a chronological listing of things that happened in 1990, the year they were born. It is instead an effort to identify the worldview of 18 year-olds in the fall of 2008. Of course, our students come from many backgrounds and different traditions and these generalizations may not apply to all. I Smell Bacon
It has been a few weeks since my last post. Lack of motivation and just no time.
I spent most of this week in another workshop. Once again it was interesting and I learned alot. I am hoping that I can go to at least one, if not both of the remaining ones coming up in the next few weeks. The new tool that we are moving to over the next year will be really cool. I can't wait to get into it more. (yeah, that is my inner geek talking)
I just came back in from taking the boys out to whiz. The air smelled wonderful. I live about mile from Patrick Cudahy. They make meat, more specifically, pork products. They must be smoking the meat as it smells like breakfast outside. The warm smell of ham.... mmmmm... too bad I went to a fish fry only a few hours ago and am not hungry.
Went to the dentist to have a crown put on. The dentist got all the prep work done and now I have a temporary one on. It feels weird. My gums are a bit swollen and my jaw still aches a bit. I go back in a couple of weeks to have the permanent one put in.
Found out last week that my dad has cancer. This sucks. It is in his mouth. He had, what he thought were just some canker sores that weren't healing. He went to the doctor and they did a biopsy and found the cancer. He went for some tests earlier this week and we should know more about what is happening and his options sometime next week. My dad is surprisingly taking this well. Now if my sister would get her head out of her ass.....

MN Day 3
Since Blogger is unavailable right now, I have to type this up in Word and then copy it later.
Back at the hotel and having a cocktail (vodka/tonic#1).
Sitting in the atrium along with a variety of people. I find it very interesting the group of priests. There have to be about 15-20 of them soaking up the free cocktails. If you were having a priest convention don’t you think they would get to wear street clothes. Not their collars and smocky things. They are too far away for me to hear what they are talking about but they are quite jovial.
Another large group is also bank people. This hotel is a preferred place for the bank to stay when traveling here. It is about 10 minutes away from our business center and 20 from the operations center. Not sure who they are as most of them have southern accents. My guess is retail or student banking as there are major pods of people in Cincy in those divisions. No clue as to who any of them are.
Lots of business people as well. Since the airport is literally across the street it is easy access for them. Most of them look like me. Sitting alone with a drink and some pretzels with their laptops working away. Me I’m not working as my VPN is not compatible with the wireless service here or something crazy like that. Whatever it is, I don’t care. I’m not doing any kind of work. There are a couple people who are in my workshop who spent all day in that and are going right back to the room to work another 5-6 hours. Not me. I refuse to do that. First of all it will force the rest of my team to live without me for a week. Heaven forbid they have to think on their own for a change. We had some issues later this afternoon that I got on call pages for. Why, not a clue as I wasn't supposed to be on call this week.

Went for drink two at the bar and met a guy from my office here. I had seen him earlier in the day at our ops center and said hi. Didn't realize that he was staying here. He taught me the trick that you can get two drinks at a time so I did. Then you don't have to go back so often. We sat and chatted for about an hour. It is nice to get people away from the work setting and talk to them. I learned that he likes to hunt and makes his own venison sausage. I shared with him that my dad make alot of sausage as well. Will have to remember to bring him some to taste.
My battery died on the laptop. I went back up and ordered dinner. Not bad.
I turned on the TV. There was some stupid show with people dancing with their dogs. DUMB!!!!! I love my dogs and will, at times, pick them up and carry them around but never do I dance with them.
I'm now watching Super Nanny. WTF?!?! These parents are crazy. This is the reason we do not have kids. I can't even comment on this any more, it is that bad.
On another TV note. The Olympics are starting on Friday. I love this!! I am totally addicted to watching everything I can. For the winter games I had 2 DVRs going so I could record more stuff. It took me awhile to watch but it is so much fun to watch these people compete.
Well, heading back home tomorrow evening after the workshop wraps up. Not nuts about having to drive back but, I figure I should make it to the Dells before dark if I can get out right away. We are then leaving for camping on Friday morning. Can't wait. The weather looks good and the company is without question, fantastic.

MN Day 2
So another day dawns warm and sunny in St. Paul.
Our workshop today was very productive. We are setting the policies and process for how the entire organization will be using a new tool. This will impact about 8000 users. It gives me a good feeling to know that my boss and his boss think enough of me and my work that they feel I should be included in these decisions. There will be 4 more of these week long sessions over the next month or so. I hope to be included in those as well.
Went to dinner at a place call Salut Bar Americain. My boss's boss called it the Applebee's for the rich. It was pricey. Dinners were about 30 bucks a piece. Atmosphere was very fun. We sat outside on the patio. Tonight's group was just fur women. I really only knew one of them prior to being here. It was nice to sit, relax and get to know them better. We don't do that enough.
It looks like the Brett Favre saga may be almost over. I am so tired of it. I was surprised to see what a big deal this is in MN as well. I really almost don't care what happens anymore.
Well, time to head to bed. Another busy day on tap for tomorrow.

Anyone Still There??
It has been a few weeks since I have posted. Lack of time being the biggest reason. There has been alot going on lately.
I figured that since I am sitting in a hotel in St. Paul, now is a good as time as any to post. Being that it is free cocktails, even better. Unfortunately the beer is Bud, but the vodka tonics are going down well.
Work calls me to MN for the week. I drove up this morning. Not a bad drive, just long. It was a little over 5 hours. Traffic was good. Car even better. I went to pick up the rental yesterday at the airport. I got my choice of car. PT Cruiser or Mustang. Sweet!! I took the Mustang. Black, fairly tricked out for a rental. It was weird driving a car. I normally drive an SUV, so sitting low to the ground feels weird. It was very easy to speed in that car, thank goodness for cruise that was set about 80.
Where did I last leave off from here??
Trivia playoffs. Finished 6th out of 28 or 29 teams. The half time question killed us. It was to put the state capitals in alphabetical order. We missed the 2nd one so they were all screwed up. A couple of sports questions and down we went. I was still happy how we did. Our group sure knows a bunch of useless (sorta) shit.

Sister is still in jail. Hopefully she will be for awhile. I knew she was desperate when she called me to post her bail. I hung up on the collect call. My parents are working on getting custody of the kids. I try to help when I can. Which I wish was more often. Those kids really need a stable environment.
Camping at Lake Yellowstone. Always a blast. It was good to see that E could come with us and get away and relax. It was also nice cuz there are no mosquitoes. This is due to the 4000+ bats in the park. I was sad that we never made it to the area where they come out in the evenings. Went to the casino on Friday. Played in a poker tourney. It payed out the top 4. I finished 5th. I feel like I played really well. I wish I had the chance to play more often.

Hubby and I are doing better. He has moved in with me. Altho', when he snores alot I wish he would go back home. It is taking some getting used to living with someone again. I have been alone for the past 6 months. I know that after almost 17 years, 6 months is nothing but, I like not having to worry about anyone else besides me and the dogs. It will just take some time. I do like him being there tho.
Brewers have been doing fairly well. They win 9 on the road and then lose four to the Cubs at home. I have made a few games this year. It sucks that you can't just decide to go on a Sunday morning, head to the stadium and expect to get good tickets and in some cases any tickets. That is the4 price that you pay when the team is doing well.
Coming up...
More camping. I head home Thursday after work and head out Friday for more camping. I love going to this park. Now that there is electricity, even better. I have to remember to go and get my fishing license on Friday morning. Now if we had a boat.........
Well, time for me to go get another drink (last call for free drinks) and head to the sports bar and grab dinner. Liquid meals are not good when I have to have a clear head for some of the training that I am doing this week.

Making Toast
So, I get an email from hubby about 10 am wanting to know if I a.) wanted the old toaster back or b.) a new toaster oven. A, you were close in your comment.
I told him that if he brought me the old toaster back I would make BLTs for dinner tonight, if he wanted to come over.
He was running late and wanted to get home before the Brewers game so he stopped off and bought me a new toaster.
Here it is folks....
By the way, the BLTs were yummy. I still have some bacon so I make them for dinner tomorrow night as well.

Lunch or Lack of One
I went to the grocery store this morning to do my weekly shopping. I have had a craving for BLT sandwich for the past week now. I pick up all the fixings, get home, unpack everything and realize that I don't have a toaster. Hubby took it with him.
I guess I'll have to head out to get one.... sigh.....
Damn, I was soo looking forward to that BLT for lunch today.

I'm Still Here
The last couple of weeks have been busy and just really did not have the time to post much.
We went to our family reunion a couple of weeks ago. Hubby and I took my two oldest nieces. For being 13 and 7, I cannot believe how good they were in the car for 3 .5 hours. They both pulled out books and read the whole time. No fighting or bickering. Same thing for the way home. I was amazed. Only once did S, ask how much longer. I showed her the GPS and pointed out where she could see the time remaining. So every so often she would lean forward and look.
Here are my nieces (outside) and my cousin's daughter (middle).
Yea, the sign is outdated but we bring it every year. The picture is of my great grandparents, my grandma and her siblings. We think the picture is dated from about 1930-ish.
The reunion itself was a good time. There were about 80 people from all over the country who attended. We have these every two years and are hosted by a different family each time. Hubby played ladder golf with one of my cousins who is slow (she was run over by a farm tractor when she about 7 and now has permanent brain damage). She almost nailed him in the nuts once when she flung the golf balls. It was kinda funny. It is always good to see everyone.
It is Summerfest time in Milwaukee. That means 11 days of music, beer and food. If you have never been to Summerfest, I suggest that you plan a visit sometime. Where else can you have 11 stages of music for 11 days and more than 700 bands
Went to John Mellencamp. For those of you who know me. I am a huge John Mellencamp fan. It started many years ago with my cousin, Linda. Since then we have been to more than 10 of his concerts all over the state. We had 8th row seats right of the aisle. It actually turned out to be about 5th row as there were no rows A-C. The concert rocked.
This picture was snapped without zooming. Yes, that is how close we were.
With it being the holiday week, work was fairly quiet. Until Thursday night. I went to bed around 11 or so. My pager went off at midnight. I join the conference call already in place. It seems that our application is creating new tickets for a group every 3-4 seconds. This had been going on since about 6:50 pm. It is now after midnight. There were over 5000 tickets. Not sure why it took so freaking long to call people in on this. After looking at things, I said that it was not on our end but that it was the automation side of things. I asked them to call in a person who handled that system about 12:15 am. By time someone finally got it thru their thick heads to call her, it was an hour later. She looked at things and said 'yep, it is because the person who set up the alerts was using special characters (@#$%^&*) in one of the fields.'. It was trying to read the info and read the special characters and got itself all locked up in a big loop. Now we have told people that they cannot do this but yet they continue to do so. By time all was said and done the group now had to close almost 7000 tickets manually, one at a freaking time. HAHAHA!!!! That'll teach them.
Yesterday, hubby helped me rip the carpet out of my office. The floors underneath look pretty good. The only room left to get the carpet out of is the spare bedroom. That one can wait for awhile. We grilled out steaks for dinner.
We met a bunch of the gang at the parking lot of the high school to watch the fireworks. It was fun as we could see both Cudahy's and St. Francis's shows. As G said, Cudahy had length but St. Francis had girth. We hung around in the parking lot until after 11, I think. A good time was had by all.
Well, time to go take the dogs for a walk. They are getting restless.

Crime Doesn't Pay
Just ask former Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee.
He was just found guilty of bribery, extortion, attempted extortion and wire transfer fraud. I think that justice has been served.
He spent most of his term as alderman shaking down store owners in exchange for the owners keeping their liquor license. One store owner got tired of it and became an FBI witness. Good for you for standing up to him. That took alot of guts. I wish there were more people like that.
I can't wait to see what kind of sentence he receives.

What Comes Around....
You all have heard the stories of my boss and what an idiot she is.
Got the news last week that she is no longer our boss and we now report to her boss. That is good for us. I like T, our new boss. He actually listens to what we have to say and trusts our judgement. She has now been moved to "special projects". This means that you are out the door in a couple of months. We see this happen every so often.
When we went to T about a month ago, he took our issues seriously and it turns out that they had to get their ducks in a row before they made any moves. It turns out that in April out of 24 business days she was only in the office 4 of them. Now she has the ability to work from home and that is fine on occasion but to only be in the office 4 days out of the month is crazy. That is the trouble when you have teams that are scattered around the country. No one really knows when you come or go.
Now we could have told T that this has been going on for a long time but I think that after they pulled her badge records they found this out for themselves. She did not take the news so well and is pissed at me since she thinks that I led the charge. I sorta did but it was her arrogance that got her into trouble in the first place.
We also discovered her online dating profile. Now I won't post a link of it on here but I sent it to a few of you. It was scary funny. Talking about how she loves her job and how good at it she was. Also saying that she is so religious and such. What a crock of shit. I told L and J that we should create a fake person and pretend that we are interested in her. While they thought that would be funny, they weren't so keen on the idea. Oh well.

Wii, Wii, Wii All The Way Home
So last week when I came home from walking the dogs, I find a Wii on my kitchen counter. Since my dad was already there that day and no one else had a key, I knew it had to be from hubby.
Funny part was that when I came back into the house I had gone in thru my office and and never went into the kitchen for over an hour. It was then that I noticed it sitting there. I took it out of the box and hooked it up. Gotta love it when they are easy to set up.
Starting off playing some baseball. I swung and missed alot. Did a game of tennis, still swung and missed alot. Next came bowling. That was fun!! I rolled a 172 my first game. Way cool. There is some skill involved with this one. Played a few more games and moved on to boxing. This is way fun!!! I was punching and sorta dodging hits. I had KO's my first two games.
Since it was Wed and almost time for trivia, I put it away for the day.
When I woke up the next morning, I felt like I went 5 rounds with Mike Tyson. My shoulders and back were freaking sore. How can a video game be that stressful on my muscles?? How can I be THAT outta shape.
So today, I go and pick up the Wii Fit from P&K. I hook it up and begin the body test. In the Wii you can create your own little person called a Mii. I made it look like me. Well once I finished my body test my Mii suddenly got fat. It looked even more like me. Pudgy!! WTF?? I don't want to have a fat Mii, I liked the skinny Mii. So that tells me one thing. I need to work out more, eat less and lose weight so my Mii can get skinnier.
I do like the Wii Fit. It has balance games like slalom skiing and ski jumping, they rock, even if I do suck. The yoga is a bit hard. The aerobic ones are kinda fun. I suck at the hula hoop. Steps are cool. They really do get your heart rate up.
Overall, Wii is a cool thing. it gets you moving, which can't be a bad thing. It is addicting. If you have the means to get one, you should.

Coming Home
Every day when I come home to work, I look forward to two things. See the boys and seeing what my dad has done around the house.
On Saturday, I came home from the Trek100 ride to find that my dad had installed the two new lights outside the doors and changed out the light fixture in the ceiling fan in the kitchen.

On Saturday, I came home from the Trek100 ride to find that my dad had installed the two new lights outside the doors and changed out the light fixture in the ceiling fan in the kitchen.
Today I came home to find my gutters fixed. The transition strips from the hardwood floors to the laminate in the kitchen and the tile in the bathroom were also installed.
It is always a surprise to see what he has done next. I know that I am very lucky to have someone who knows what he is doing (he was a carpenter for many years) and is willing to come over and fix things when need be. I have my dad-to-do list and whenever I make a run to Home Depot and spend money I call him up and tell him what I have purchased. He then plans out his week to stop over and demolish, install or fix stuff.
My to do list now has on it:
- Install mailbox (I need to buy one first). it is currently on a pole and I want it installed on the side of the house.
- Fix the leak by the hot water heater. There is a slow drip.
- Fix the glass block in the window wells that are cracked
- Remove the old caulk from the seams in the driveway and replace with something else.
- Put soffets in the roof.
- Put in new windows. I have three of them that have leaks. With all the rain we got, one of them has water between the panes of glass. Once again, I have to buy those first. This may be a late fall project as it will be a bit pricey.
- Put insulation in the attic. Also a fall project as the attic is now way to warm to be hanging out in.
- Rip the carpet up in my office.
- Fix the garage door. It doesn't want to close right. Not sure what the issue is but sometimes it take me 5-6 times of opening/closing it before it will go down all the way.

Poker, Bikes and Arks
Once again the weekend has flown past.
Friday, I played poker. Finished 2nd again. Made my money back. I am in third place overall and if it weren't for my dismal start I would be firmly in second place. I am only 3 points behind the second place person. The guy in first place has taken 2 firsts, 3 seconds, and a 5th place. I'm a long way back from that. I am really happy with how I am playing. Laying low early and playing only strong hands. Then when the guys weed each other out, I can start to play more marginal hands and get away with them. I think that even after six weeks, these guys underestimate me. Which is fine by me.
Saturday, dawned warm and humid. Hubby and I rode in the Trek 100 (it is still not to late to donate). It was a good time. We ended up only riding 21 miles. It was a bit too warm out and my ass was no where nearly in shape to be able to ride further than that. We hung around after the ride and drank beer from the Delafield Brewhaus. The Dock Light was yummy and refreshing.
Here is a pic of me before the ride, holding a picture of my cousin, Scott who died last September from cancer at the age of 42. I wore my Vegas jersey for him (his picture was in my pocket of my jersey during the ride) as I knew how much he loved to go there and went at least twice a year. Don't you just love my pink bike :)
We had to cut the day short as severe storms were moving in. The evacuated the area and sent SAG support out to pick up any riders still on the course so that they could get back before the weather hit. We got back to my house about an hour before the storms started. Which was good. Was able to get the dogs out and walked a bit before the deluge. According to my rain gauge, I got a little over 5 inches of rain in less than 3 hours. I emptied it about 8:30 pm and recorded another 1.5 inches more about 6:30 am the next morning. I emptied it again around 9:30 that night and had 3.25 more inches of rain from two storms during the day and early evening on Sunday.
I had to go and get some gutter extensions to help keep the water out and away from the foundation. I only have a little water in the basement. I was happy about that.
Lake Delton in the Dells did not fear as well. The lake is literally gone. The lake had risen about 20 inches and the water made its own channel around the dam and literally emptied the lake. You can see the lake and read more about it here. It is crazy to see the lake bed now, there were even fish flopping around.
Here is a picture from over by where we used to live. I used to ride my bike down this road all the time. There is a little creek that runs through here. Not that you could see that now. There has to be at least 10 feet of water in those fields.
My parents home is blocked in by the water as well. The roads are flooded from the river. They had their sump pump clog up and ended up with about 4 inches of water in the basement. Thank goodness it was all rainwater and not sewage. They are slowing drying out.

It's Not too Late

Baba Wawa
On Thursday, one of my girlfriends and I went to see Barbara Walters at Alverno College. It was very interesting.
Barbara is out on tour promoting her new book, Audition. I have not started to read it yet, but it looks interesting. I think that some of the historical parts will be really good. You never know how that will help us in trivia nites.
We were told up front that we were not allowed to take pictures but I did manage to get a few of them before the guy yelled at us. The lighting in the auditorium was a goofy so the pictures I did get are a bit fuzzy and off. The evening was set up to be in an interview style and Kathy Mykleby from WISN was hosting it. I liked the format.
Some interesting facts are that she does not drive and never has. She considered one of her major coups to be when she had to get on a plane with Walter Cronkite and John Chancellor to get an interview with Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin. Her older sister was mentally retarded and Barbara was in Milwaukee giving a speech when she learned that she died.

I Should Know Better
...than to put away my winter coat until August. I kid you not. On Sunday morning, I put my winter coat away in the closet from it's spot on the coat hook in the hallway. With it, I packed away my gloves and hat.
I woke up this morning to take the dogs out and it was 38 degrees out. I had to go back in the closet and get my coat. WTF?? This is crazy.
The temps dropped yesterday about 8:30 or so. It went from about 80 to 54 in about an hour or so. The wind picked up and brought in the cold blustery weather again.
I am glad that I spent yesterday taking off the rest of the storm windows and washing the windows up. It feels nice to be able to see out of the clean windows. Makes the rooms so much brighter. Except for the fact that three of the windows are garbage and have some sort of leak in them and are now all fogged up. One still has water in between the two panes of glass. I will have to replace those before winter.

I would take the five grand. I really do not like most of the traditional Thanksgiving fare type of food. Do not care for turkey all that much, hate mashed potatoes, I will eat stuffing (usually the only thing I eat on Thanksgiving, other than the olives and pickles) and that is about it.

I would take the five grand. I really do not like most of the traditional Thanksgiving fare type of food. Do not care for turkey all that much, hate mashed potatoes, I will eat stuffing (usually the only thing I eat on Thanksgiving, other than the olives and pickles) and that is about it.

Busy as a Bee
Another busy weekend. Thank goodness I have Monday to rest up.
Saturday, Hubby and I took my niece to the museum to see the Body Worlds exhibit. It was really cool. What was odd that I did not expect is that most of the bodies still had eyelashes and eyebrows. Some even had pubic hair. Really bizarre. The pregnant woman with an 8 month old fetus still in the womb was very cool. She had an incurable disease and knew that her and the baby would not survive. I wish that it would have been less crowded and you could have taken pictures. Looking at the lungs of a smoker is enough to make you stop. Also, seeing what cancer looks like is weird. If you have the chance to go see, I would. It was worth the money spent.
After that we made a top at the planetarium. We seen CSI:Cosmic. That was cool. I really enjoyed the first part where we got to see the skies over Milwaukee and she pointed out the stars that were visible and when.
Next stop was Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin. It was just ok. Not worth the price if you paid full price. The aquarium was neat. We got to pet stingrays.
Had dinner at Elsa's. I love their Pork variation #1 sandwich. Yummy!!!
Today was spent doing yard work. I got the grass cut and my dad came over and helped me power wash the house. We decided to take off one of the storm windows and see what they looked like underneath. Surprisingly, not bad. My project for tomorrow maybe to take the rest of the storm windows off the house.
We grilled out a couple of steaks on the grill. They were yummy as well.
I watched "Letters from Iwo Jima" this evening. It was good. The subtitle thing made me actually watch the movie instead of reading and watching or something else. You had to pay attention. I would recommend it along with "Flag of our Fathers". Same basic story but told from different sides of the war.
I had to work earlier for about an hour but it went smooth. Thank goodness.
Well, it is almost time for bed. My butt is dragging.

Phone Home... Maybe....
I swear the the phone company is a joke. When I moved I thought that I had requested the same service for my new house that I had at my old house. The bill was always about 28 bucks or so. We didn't have anything except for call waiting. I never seen the need to have Caller ID or anything else... I never used it.
I got May's phone bill today and once again, Hubby's name is STILL on it. I have called every month and get the same thing from them.. Ok, we have taken care of it. You are the only one on the bill. Until I get the bill the next month. He is still listed.
Then there is the cost thing. My bill is still over $43 a month. I have called each month to get the long distance removed from my service. I use my cell if I need to make a long distance call. The first two months the bill $60.17 and $73.47.
I don't get it. What is so hard about this?? All I want is basic service. The cheapest you got.
I would so move to just cell phone if I A.) had better reception here. I live in a little valley and no one gets decent service. If I go 1 block either way. I am at full service. B.) There are times for work that I end up on long conference calls and don't want to burn thru all the minutes in one day. Example: For the server upgrade, I was on a call from about 7:30 pm-12:00 am and then again from about 2:30 am - 8:30 am.
Maybe I should consider moving to VoIP. Road Runner already provides my cable service, maybe just get them to do my phone. Does anyone else have VoIP? If so, do you like it? What is good? What is bad?
My boss's boss will be in town for the next two days. This should be interesting. Boss dropped the ball on another project last week that left us once again scrambling to get things in place the day before they go live. I think he will leave with a whole lot of things to think about concerning my boss.
Camping this past weekend was fun. The weather on Sat nite was sucky. It couldn't decide if it wanted to rain or not. Either way it was cold and windy and kinda miserable that nite. During the day we had a good time playing bocce ball.
I did find beer heaven tho' A new Woodman's store opened in Oak Creek a few months ago. They advertise the 'wall of beer'. They carry every beer made in Wisconsin. Let me tell you, that is alot of beer. I ended up buying some Point Nude Beach, Tyranena Three Beaches Honey Blonde and Leinie's Summer Shandy (one of my favorites). I encourage you to check it out.
The Idol finals are almost on. Have to go watch.

Big Wood
This past weekend were spent ripping up the carpeting in the living room and hallway. There was nothing really wrong with it, just not want I wanted and Boomer liked to wiz on it.
It took my dad and I only three hours to get it all ripped out and the floor cleaned up. We both were pleasantly surprised at how good the floors underneath looked. Much better shape than the floor in my bedroom.
This is before we started.
We started in the hallway. Just to see what it looked like.
After we were all done. The dogs were not to sure about the slippery floors again. Poor Rufus can't get his footing to jump up on the couch. I have to bring the area rugs up from the basement.

The floors are a bit yellow/orangey but that is the old finish on them wood that has aged over the last 50 years. I am in no hurry to have them refinished as they look in good shape.
I only have the spare bedroom and my office left to do yet. My office will be a bitch as moving my desk is not easy feat. It weighs a ton.
My next project will be to replace the baseboards and quarter round. It just looks junky and all knicked up and such.

An Interesting Proposition
Last summer I stuck my resume out on Milwaukeejobs.com. I had a few consulting firms call and a couple of interviews. Nothing really panned out.
I have not touched my resume since I stuck it out there. In the past two weeks I have had three firms contact me expressing interest in me. At first, I was like, nah, not interested. But then I began to think about it. Why not. The interview experience will be good and who knows. I may find something that I like.
So tonight, I emailed them back saying that they could contact me and to get more information.
I like my job. I like what I do. I am very good at my job. I consistently get emails from customers giving me praise. I always forward them to my boss and her boss. I also print them out and include them in my review each year.
I hate my boss and the road blocks that she throws up. Example: Co-worker, F. Nice guy but the job is just not right for him. He is now designing some web pages. We had to write the content and he did no more than copy and paste it out there. No formatting, no proof writing. This took 3 freaking days. Not sure what else he was doing but OMG!! the pages still look like crap and we are supposed to publish them next week. He wanted L and I to write the FAQ's. He has been doing this job for over a year now and can't figure out what types of questions we get often and to put them out there. This may be a case where I just pull the docs away from him and do them myself. It would probably take no more than half a day to create the web pages and get them looking good.
Part of me says to just let him fall on his face cuz we can't keep enabling this type of behavior. Maybe my boss will get the picture and move him into another job. It just is not right for him. Part of me says, I will get this dumped on me anyway, get it and do it now instead of later when the deadlines are tight.
Not too much on the agenda for the weekend. I may rip up the carpet in the living room. I know I have red oak hardwood floors under the carpet. What I don't know is what they will look like. The fun will be in finding out.
I also have to make a trip to my old library. I can't get a new card in my new city until I pay off the $.70 fine I have at the old library. It will cost me more in gas than the fine. Oh well. I have a list of books that I want to read and paying off the fine is the only way I will get to read them.

Who Needs Sleep??
Apparently, not me.
Server upgrade went smooth. We were messing around with some web pieces for awhile but things were good. We called it a success around midnight and I went to bed.
Then my pager goes off. At 12:40am. Things had slowed to a crawl and for whatever reason the server was restarting itself. WTF?? Get vendor on the phone. Do some looking and don't see anything in the log files. We think maybe this is a fluke and go back to bed about 2:30 am.
Pager goes off at 2:57 am. What is going on? I get up again and gather the troops. We are now getting everybody who was on earlier back in. People are pouring over files and digging deep to try an figure out what is going on. At about 5:00 am we decide that we have to back out. We can't go into a Monday running as we are. The DBA and sys admin guys are geniuses and determine that we only have to do a partial backout. We can stay on the same database cluster and just move back to the old application server cluster as that is what is throwing the errors and restarting. It takes about an hour to form the plan and begin execution. By about 6:30am we are back in business. We have our key areas doing some testing for us and all seems well. We hang out and monitor until about 7:15 am. We decide then that we will do a status check at 8:30am.
I try to lay down and get a nap but the dogs have other ideas. They want to go out and eat and such. By time I take care of them I figure I may as well stays up and get some work done.
At 8:30 am, everything is still going smooth. YEAH!! Music to my ears. I cancel my two afternoon meetings and go back to bed. And there I lay... wide awake. I am now running on so much adrenaline that I can't sleep. After about an hour of tossing I finally sleep.
The garbage people (2nd cousins to the Village people) wake me up around 2:00pm. The dogs were restless and needed to get up. So here I am. I figure that if I'm going to sleep decent tonight I need to get up now. I have a headache and can barely keep my eyes open. I am hoping that a shower will help.

Easy Come, Easy Go
Another weekend has flown by again.
I am now 'working' on our server upgrade. The dba and sys admins are now doing their part and I just sit and wait for now. My job starts when they get done. Regression testing is boring but a very important thing.
Friday was low key. Went to go see Street Kings. Not too bad. I like Keanu Reeves so that is always a plus.
Saturday was spent playing poker. I did pretty good. Finished 3rd in the first game and 2nd in the second game. These point really helped boost me back into the mix. We played a cash game after that and I finished third. Just outta the money but it was fun.
After that we played 'stove poker'. What is stove poker?? you ask. It is basically 5 card draw for a buck a hand. Since the poker table still had games going on the only other flat surface was in the kitchen on the stove. Since I went deep into the other games I only got to play a few hands of stove poker. I didn't win a hand until the final one that we did for 3 bucks a person. That was cool as it netted me 15 bucks. Notice my winning hand is the straight. I caught the 6-9 in my draw.
Today, I did yard work. After a call to dad and two trips to the hardware store got the lawn mower started and the grass cut. it didn't take me much more than 30-40 minutes. The lawn really looks nice. Now I just have to wait until all the dandelions are dead. I have to call the lawn service to have them come back out next week to spray again. I was going to get some pictures but forgot until it was too late.
Since my dad was already here and hubby was coming over to see the dogs, I figured I would throw some brats on the grill. They were yummy. Nothing like the first time you grill out of the season.
I was across the street talking to a neighbor and got the scoop on the guy who is doing her patio. I'm going to see what he will charge me to put it in. I want to get a place to put the furniture, grill and fire pit and not have to worry about the grass. Plus it is less to mow.
Well, it is almost time for me to start 'working'. I am working on creating a new template for my blog and what better way to do it than using work software.

I'm a Survivor... Not!
Every season, I get into a Survivor pool. It is run by a friend of a friend. It costs $10 per person.
Every year, I get close but no cigar. This season I had James and Yau Man. Yau went out early but not before he found the immunity idol in the first show. That netted me $3.
Tonight, James ended up leaving for medical reasons. He had a bad cut on his finger. I was pissed. I was really hoping that he would do good for me this season. Another season down the drain.
I love the fact that they are blind siding everyone once the merge happened. Ozzie and Jason never seen it coming. They should have. It really is good playing. I think that it will be Amanda or Parvati that will win it. I like both of them in their first season.
Another good night in trivia. We got hosed by the final question. I do not remember the exact question so I can't post it but it was about A's favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz. We did well enough to score a 2nd place. I see that they added a few more places for trivia. I am happy to see Riverfront Pizzeria. I was there a couple of months ago, and it was good. We will have to try that place out sometime.
This weekend will be busy with poker once again. it has been 3 weeks since we last played. We are going to try to get in at least 2 games. I know Mark would like to make it 3 if possible. It is going to be hard to get everyone together once the weather gets nice.
Sunday nite will be spent working on the server upgrade for work. Ever since my boss was confronted about her behavior she has been really good. Our team meeting yesterday was so productive it was scary.
Rufus is feeling much better. He slept thru the night last nite. Which was good as I was tired. On Tuesday nite, I took Rufus and Boomer out about 2:45 am or so. As I walked out the door, there was a cop walking down the driveway from the back yard. Scared me, scared him and Boomer went ballistic. Neither him or i expected the other to be there at that time of the nite. With the two houses on one side of me vacant, they do a walk thru every so often. That makes me glad that they are so diligent.

Dropping the Hammer
So, the hammer dropped at work today. No it wasn't the hammer (2-7 in poker). My boss was confronted about some thing that were going on by her boss. The new guy of our group, JF, is out in Portland with her and got to witness the excitement first hand. I guess she was doing some major ass kissing and yelling on the phone.
She didn't get fired, at least yet. She did admit that a trip she took in Feb to Vegas was paid for by a vendor who is attempting to do business with us. That is a huge mistake and a violation of our code of ethics. I cannot believe they did not hook her for that.
She also admitted that a presentation that she gave to senior mgmt about a program involving the previously mentioned vendor was way off base and would not save the company any money (she told them $1 million/year) but would probably end up costing more money than the current system we are using. Funny that program, with vendor has now been cancelled.
Alot of this could have been avoided if she would not have been so pushy about "just getting the program out there and we can fix it once people start using it". She probably did not want to give up the perks that vendor was feeding her. Hey who wouldn't want a trip to Vegas paid for.
I guess she spent most of the day telling JF that she was probably going to get fired and trying to find out who ratted her out. So far no clue that it was her own team. She then proceeded to dump another poorly run project on to JF. She then got upset with him that since he has had the project (all of 1 day now) that he is not further along than he is. It would help if someone (boss) has submitted the requests for the proper access for him. So, this project is doomed as well and will probably be scrapped within a week or so.
Are you seeing the same pattern, I am?? I really think that they should just get rid of her. Only time will tell.
Rufus is sick. He was up like 4 times last nite and had to go outside. When he got out there, he has to go. You could tell that his tummy was not feeling so good. Every time that he had to go out he would start by scratching the foot board at the end of the bed. He would try that twice. If I didn't get up (hey, I told him to lay down and go back to sleep) he would then come up and scratch at my arm or head. That made me get up. At least he didn't putz around out there. Did what he needed to and came back in.

This is tough. Cigarette butts just gross. 5 lbs of anything is ALOT... have to go with the leaves on this one.

Gotta Love It
Today was a strange sort of day at work.
First of all it was take your rugrat to work day.... or as StB said it was "Breeders, Take Your Spawn to Work" Day. I have said this many times before. I am not a kid person. I love my nieces but really do not want any of my own. I am perfectly happy with the dogs and bird. I can leave them in their crates all day and not get thrown in jail. I do not want to be subjected to your brats all day at work. I have to give the organizers for our building credit. They for the most part kept them out of my way. Except for the fact that the candy machine was barren by time I needed my mid-afternoon sugar rush.
My team had a meeting today with my boss's boss, T. T is a pretty good guy. I think we totally blew him away with the information we gave him. I have a feeling that my current boss will not be so for much longer. This is a good thing. Once he realized the scope of things he was shocked. Obviously, he had no idea on alot of it. He does now. We made her look good because for the most part we are a very small but competent group that is self sufficient. L and I pretty much run things. We know what needs to get done and we do it.
I told T that one of the reasons we did not come forward sooner is that we feared retaliation. Whenever you question boss on something she gets very defensive and combative. There is no reasoning with her. When she finds out that we went to her boss (who in turn went to HR and his boss) she will be pissed. I felt much better about things after he said that if she so much as says anything to us that can be construed as hostile or retaliatory towards us we are to get ahold of him or his boss ASAP and she will be dealt with swiftly (I think that means fired). The next few days will be very interesting. I'll keep you updated.
This afternoon my dad calls me at work. This is odd. Last week I had told him that if he wanted to get a new cell phone that my contract was up for renewal and he could go and get a new phone for free or for a small price which I would pay for. I told him to go to the Verizon store and go look at the phones that they had there and let me know which one he wanted. He had to call me at work to tell me which phone he liked. He liked it because it has big buttons. Is that a sign of being old when you don't care what other features it has other than big buttons?? He'll get his new big buttoned phone next week.
This is a shout out to marcus, who complains that I never tell him about what trivia questions we missed the night before. I forget to write them down. I remembered last night. So here is the final question.
What woman won a best actress Oscar for a movie that was directed by her husband? To see the answer drag your mouse over the next section of white space. Frances McDormand for Fargo. Her husband is Joel Coen. Did you get it right?? We didn't, but we still took first place.
